Terms of Service
Last Updated:
- Agreement to Terms
By accessing, contributing to, or otherwise participating in the Hack OC fundraising campaign (“Campaign”), operated by Priscilla Vu (“Hack OC,” “we,” “us,” “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not participate in the Campaign.
- About This Campaign
Hack OC is a community-led hackathon initiative focused on supporting and growing the Orange County tech, design, and product community.
This campaign is intended to raise funds to support the planning and execution of a multi-day hackathon event. Hack OC is not currently a registered nonprofit organization, and contributions should be considered good-faith community support, not charitable donations in the legal sense.
Key Points
- This Campaign is a community crowdfunding effort, not an investment opportunity.
- Contributions help cover event-related expenses such as venue, food, supplies, prizes, technology, and organizer compensation.
- Hack OC retains discretion over how funds are allocated to support the success of the event.
- No equity, ownership, profit-sharing, or financial return is offered or implied.
- Participation does not create any partnership, employment, or fiduciary relationship.
- Sponsorship Tiers
3.1 Nature of Contributions
Sponsorship tiers and contribution options are not purchases of goods or services. They are voluntary contributions made to support the event and community.
Depending on the tier, contributors may receive:
- Recognition on the website or event materials
- Promotional visibility
- Opportunities to mentor, judge, or engage with participants
- Limited non-monetary benefits (e.g., swag, shoutouts)
These benefits are incidental and do not constitute a commercial transaction.
3.2 No Refunds
All contributions are final and non-refundable.
By contributing, you acknowledge that:
- Funds may be used immediately for planning, deposits, and operational expenses
- Event details (date, venue, format) may evolve
- The event may be delayed, modified, or canceled due to factors outside our control
- Contributions help make the event possible but do not guarantee specific outcomes
- Open Contributions (“Be Part of the Momentum”)
4.1 Nature of Contributions
Open contributions allow supporters to donate an amount of their choosing without selecting a sponsorship tier. Contributors may receive:
- Public or private recognition (if opted in)
- Campaign updates
- Community acknowledgements
These contributions are made in good faith to support the Hack OC mission.
4.2 Tax Considerations
IMPORTANT:
- Hack OC is not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
- Contributions are generally not tax-deductible.
- No tax receipts will be issued.
- Contributors are responsible for consulting a tax professional regarding their specific situation.
